Pakistan Reduces Eid Ban On Bollywood Films

Pakistan’s the Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage reduced ban on screening of Indian films in that country to one week, Pakistan’s Express Tribune reported. 

The ban was planned to be observed from two days before Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha up until two weeks after. However, the new decision has now reduced the period to just one week after the Eid holidays, the report said.

The initial decision was made promote the local Pakistani films which are releasing on Eid-al-Fitr. These include Mahira Khan-starrer seven Din Mohabbat In and Javed Sheikh’s Wajood.

“Keeping the importance of local film industry and exhibition facilities in mind, the government has decided that screening of Bollywood movies shall be restricted for a period of one week in total, starting from the Eid day. The decision has been taken to promote Pakistani film industry,” a revised notice says.

Pakistani movies will now face tough competition at the box office as Salman Khan’s Race 3 is now due to hit screens one week after Eid, along with Sanju, the much-awaited biopic of Sanjay Dutt, the report said.
