New figures by Afghanistan Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries (AWCCI) show that 1,150 women entrepreneurs have invested in different businesses in the country over the past 18 years.

The figures show that investments by women reach more than $77 million.

According to the statistics, 300 women entrepreneurs have started their businesses last year alone.

The figures indicate that the investments by women investors have provided jobs for 77,000 individuals across the country.

“Many differences can be seen in the last three years. We had 650 women in our database, and it was 830 women in 2017 and now it is 1,150 women and 300 of them have registered their business last year,” said Parwarish Oryakhail, chairperson of business development services at Afghanistan Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

From the overall investments, 50 percent of them are in Kabul, the statistics show.

A designer dresses company in Kabul is one of the investments by a woman entrepreneur Hanifa Sultani, who runs her business under Trannum Style Company.

Sultani said she started her business two years ago and that now she has two selling centers for her products. Sultani said uses online services for selling products of her company.

“The biggest problem is the high prices for the materials we need for our products, but the quality of our products is good,” said Sultani.

The statistics show that Ghor, Paktia, Laghman and Uruzgan are among provinces with the lowest level of investments by women.
