Kabul-Jakarta Seek to Enhance Economic Cooperation

Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MoCI) on Wednesday said Afghanistan and Indonesia have agreed to expand their economic cooperation in the near future.

According to MoCI, there is a huge market for Afghanistan’s products in Indonesia and that Jakarta plans to pave the way for expanding export and imports between the two countries soon.

Meanwhile, Sam Aryadi, head of chancery/public and socio-cultural affairs of the Indonesian embassy in Kabul, has said that more than 200 Afghan traders and business leaders will participate in the annual trade expo in Indonesia.

“The Indonesian government is committed to providing the Afghanistan business community training for export, import procedures, to prepare for trade between the two countries. Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Afghanistan could be enhanced. During the past four years, there was 35 to 70 million US dollars of trade relations between both countries, it has potential and we want to increase that. Therefore, we invite the Afghan business community to provide them with sufficient knowledge to conduct proper export and import activities,” he said.

“We are open for bilateral economic relations and trade between both countries is good,” he added.

Indonesian embassy has also announced awareness and training programs to Afghan businessmen on Indonesia’s tariffs and custom laws.

MoCI officials have said that Indonesian people largely prefer to use Afghan products and considering that, business communities from the two countries are planning to expand their economic and trade cooperation.

“From this seminar we learned a lot about packing products which will be sent to the Indonesian markets. In the future we will try to send the products in more professional formats to the markets,” said an Afghan businesswoman, Deeba Khalaf.
