At least 13 voter registration centers remain closed in Balkh province due to higher security threats, Fazel Hayati, acting head of the provincial headquarters of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said.
He said that three of these centers which are located in Chahar Bolak district of the province so far have not received their election materials.
He warned that the majority of those eligible to vote will not be able to do so if government fails to ensure security in high risk areas.
“While the second phase is proceeding, at least 13 centers remain closed in the districts - such as Chahar Bolak, Chimtal, Dawlat Abad and Shortepa,” he said.
“I will participate in the elections and will cast my vote for the candidate who is committed to seving our country,” said Mohammad Yousun 60, a resident of Khulm district.
“I will cast my vote for an appropriate candidate for the sake of peace and the people,” another resident said.
IEC has established nine centers in Khulm district.
“Many people are registering, we are supposed to work until 1:00 pm, but people are coming, and we are working until 4:00 pm,” said Ahmad Munir Hamdard, an IEC registration officer in Khulm.
