42 Voter Registration Centers Remain Closed In Jawzjan

Amanullah Habibi head of the IEC regional office in Jawzjan province said that of 129 voter registration centers in the province 42 of them remain closed due to security threats. 
 
Habibi said that the 42 centers are located in five districts of the province. 
 
According to Habibi at least 35 other voter registration centers are facing serious security threats in the province. 
 
“Now we are in the second stage, in this phase we have activated centers, and we are trying to activate the rest of these centers in the third stage, in cooperation with government forces,” said Habibi. 
 
He said that 15 voter registration centers in Darzab district, 10 centers in Murdian district and four each in Khamab and Qarqin districts are facing security threats.
 
“We have activated three voter registration centers out of ten centers and registration is going on, but unfortunately we have lots of problems in Darzab district and so far, we are not able to transfer even the election materials to the district,” Habibi added. 
 
Meanwhile, a number of provincial council members and Jawzjan residents emphasized the need for security at voter registration centers in the province. 
 
“We, the intellectuals, don’t believe in this election, and if they do not pay more attention, these elections will be rigged elections ,” said Halima Sadaf Jawzjan, a provincial council member. 
 
 Jawzjan police chief said however security forces are working to ensure the security of voter registration centers.
 
“The government forces are trying to provide more security for these centers and open the way for the registration of Jawzjan residents,” said Jawzjan police chief Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani. 
 
Jawzjani said that soon, operations to eliminate insurgent strongholds will be launched in vulnerable parts of the province.
