IEC Could Open Some Polling Stations Sunday

The Independent Election Commission’s (IEC) chief Abdul Badi Sayyad said on Saturday afternoon that a number of polling stations did not open as scheduled and if this situation continues they will open Sunday for people to vote.

He said the IEC will still take a final decision on this as some of the affected polling stations will open this afternoon.

According to him, this will ensure that everyone has a fair chance to vote.

Sayyad’s comments come amid an outcry by the public over the number of issues around the election process.

TOLOnews received over 4,000 complaints in about an hour and a half – mostly about polling stations that had not opened.

Another concern among TOLOnews viewers was that in some instances the wrong ballot papers had been sent to some polling stations.

Some Herat residents said they were sent ballot papers for Bamiyan.
