The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Monday said the election management body has wrapped up the recounting process of votes for Kabul province and IEC staff is now processing the data registration of the results.

The IEC said the election commission will announce the election results for Nangarhar, Paktia and Baghlan provinces within the next few days, however election results for Kabul will be delayed once again.

The IEC said the registration process of presidential election candidates began on Saturday.

So far the IEC has announced election results for 29 provinces. But the final results will be announced once all electoral complaints are investigated by the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC).

“More problems arose in the provinces of Paktia and Baghlan. Recounting of votes for Kabul was completed yesterday,” said IEC chief Abdul Badi Sayyad.

“Results for large provinces such Nangarhar will possibly be announced in the next few days. But some other provinces such Kabul... I think will have delays in the announcement,” added IEC commissioner, Maliha Hassan.

Over 2,500 candidates were in the October 20 parliamentary elections race, for 250 seats in the lower house of parliament. Kabul province has 33 seat reserved in parliament.

Last week, the IECC invalided all votes for Kabul due to “widespread fraud” and irregularities in the process.
