The Independent Electoral Complaint Commission (IECC) on Saturday said the decision on invalidating Kabul votes will not change if the Independent Election Commission (IEC) does not provide them all the necessary information and data regarding Kabul polls.  

The IECC spokesman Ali Reza Rouhani said they will bring changes in the first article of their decision which is about invalidation of Kabul votes if they see good cooperation from the election commission. He said that so far, there has been no changes in their decision about dismissal of those IEC employees who have been involved in the “election fraud”. 

“If we receive the documents and evidences and a decision be made on recounting the votes based on a legal and accurate mechanism, then we will amend the first article of our decision paper that was announced on Thursday. We will make the amendment based on the law that would be in favor of the people,” said Rouhani. 

The election commission meanwhile said on Saturday that the recounting process of Kabul votes was stopped because IECC did not send its observers to the commission to oversee the process. 

IEC spokesman Sayed Hafizullah Hashemi said if the complaints commission does not send its observers, the election commission will start the recounting process of Kabul votes in absence of IECC observers.

“Unfortunately, today our colleagues from the IECC who were supposed to come, were not present and the votes counting process is stopped,” said Hashemi. 

IECC on Thursday said Kabul votes are invalid due to numerous fraud and corruption that have been made in the process. 

Reacting to the announcement, the election commission later said IECC’s decision was a political-motivated decision. 

To resolve the disagreements, members of the commission on Friday attended a meeting chaired by Second Vice President Sarwar Danish and other government officials where they agreed to review the decision on invalidation of Kabul votes for parliamentary elections. 

In a joint statement, the two commissions said they will review the decision and the election commission will give all the information regarding Kabul elections to the IECC. 

On Saturday, however, IECC said if they do not receive all the necessary information from the election commission, there will be no changes in their decision.
