MP Claims Stickers Being Pasted On Fake ID Cards

Lawmakers from Nangarhar on Monday claimed that at some voter registration centers in the province stickers are being pasted on fake ID cards.

Speaking at a press conference in Kabul, an MP from Nangarhar Mirwais Yasini said that stickers are being pasted on fake ID cards in Kama district of the eastern province.

He warned that the upcoming elections will face large scale fraud if ongoing irregularities are not stopped.

Meanwhile officials from Afghanistan’s Central Civil Registration Authority (ACCRA) said that they will take the necessary action regarding the issue.

“If the result of our investigation shows that this incident is true, we will take serious and legal action against our employees involved in the issue,” said ACCRA spokesman Rohullah Ahmadzai

“Two provincial council candidates went there (voter registration center) and saw that stickers are pasted on fake ID cards, according to them, 60 ID cards were pasted only yesterday and 150 ID cards pasted two days ago. A systematic mistake is going on,” said MP from Nangarhar  Mirwais Yasini.

“All those involved in the issue must be investigated, otherwise elections and democracy will be disrupted,” added Yasini.
