Parties To Consider Interim Govt If Election Reforms Not Made

The political committee of political parties on Monday warned that if in the presidential election, serious reforms are not brought about in the technical and monitoring sections, and fundamental changes are not made in the leadership of the election commission, the parties will not accept a non-transparent election and will consider an interim government.

The parties’ political committee believes that the parliamentary elections was full of problems, poor management and technical challenges, adding that they demand serious reforms in the upcoming presidential elections.

“We request full use of technology in both the registration process and the election day,” said Mohammad Natiqi head of political committee of the political parties.

The political parties committee warns that if their demands are not addressed by the government and the election commission they will consider establishing an interim government.

“If government again does not consider the parties’ requests and holds the presidential elections without reforms, then the parties would prefer to consider an interim government,” said Hamayun Jarir, Hizb-e-Islami representative of the political parties committee.

On the other hand the government emphasizes a change in the system and that they will follow all means to hold transparent elections.

“The government is committed to do all it can to hold a transparent and acceptable election,” said Omid Maisam deputy spokesman for CEO office.

Meanwhile, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said that talks with the donor institutions and the parties' representatives continued to meet the parties' demands.

“The election commission will make the final decision and this time we will not make a cordial decision. We will consider the time and will use options which could lead to a transparent election,” said Gulajan Abdulbadi Sayyad head of the IEC.

Ten-finger biometric scan with eye scans and voter photos on the election day, deployment of biometric identification when voting, providing effective monitoring of parties from all election processes and necessary reforms in electoral documents and procedures are the main demands of the political parties.
