GOFTMAN: Plight of Afghan Children Discussed

Based on the reports, over 3.5 million children in Afghanistan are deprived of an education and another 1.9 million are working – with over a million of them subjected to heavy labor.

Nineteen percent of girls are subjected to forced marriages before their legal age while seven percent of children under the age of five lose their lives.

Reports also state that there are around three million drug addicts in Afghanistan of which 10 percent constitute children.

Afghanistan has been declared the 16th worst country in the world for children.

If the future of a nation hinges on its children, questions can then be raised as to what sort of future will Afghanistan have – in light of the current problems.

In this episode of Goftman, host Partaw Naderi discusses the topic with the following guests:

Najib Babrakzai, a member of the Human Rights Commission

Sultan Ali Rahimi, a legal expert

Mujib Mehrdad, a spokesman for the ministry of education

Sharafuddin Azimi, a psychologist
