Ministries of Defense and Interior Affairs have launched an investigation into reports which say civilians have been killed in government forces operation in Shegal district in Kunar province, security officials said.  
 
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said Kunar operation was conducted jointly by Afghan and foreign forces, but a spokesman of US troops in Afghanistan said they only had an advisory role in the operation and that it was conducted by the Afghan forces.
 
The operation was conducted in Shegal districts on Thursday night and early reports say that nearly 20 civilians including women and children have been killed and wounded in the operation.
