For the first time in 40 years of war and bloodshed in the country, the involved sides in the conflict – the Afghan government and the Taliban – agreed on a temporary ceasefire during the three days of Eid-al-Fitr.
However, in the first day of the ceasefire from government’s side on June 12, 65 government forces were killed by the Taliban in different parts of the country.
The ceasefire was welcomed by Afghans from all over the country.
