GOFTMAN: Ghazni Crisis Discussed

Taliban stormed Ghazni City – 148 kilometers southwest of Kabul – at around 1am Kabul time on Friday.

After four days of heavy clashes, the city is still extremely vulnerable.

In this program we look at what factors led to the Ghazni crisis.

We also look at the following issues:

Why is such extensive damage caused to towns in such incidents – especially regarding the high casualty toll and the extent of buildings destroyed?

Why did Taliban attack Ghazni city just days before Eid al-Adha and when government is talking about announcing another Eid ceasefire and US officials are talking to the Taliban?

What message does the Taliban’s attack on Ghazni send to the government of Afghanistan and the Americans?

And finally, what will be the consequences of the attack on the overall situation in Afghanistan?

In this episode host Partaw Naderi discusses the topic with the following guests:

Shagul Rezaie, MP

Musa Mahmoodi, CEO of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission

Azizullah Shakib, resident of Ghazni

Mohammad Gul Mujahid, military expert
