Siyagird district residents in Parwan province have sustained billions of Afghanis worth of damage after a massive fire broke out at the main district market on Friday, local officials said Sunday.
Noor Aqa Saame district governor confirmed the incident and said the fire started on Friday at about 3pm local time.
According to Saame more 400 shops were destroyed and shop owners have sustained billions of Afghanis in losses.
Saame said that the cause of the fire is not yet known but that the first blaze was detected in the timber shops in Siyagird market.
Saame said the fire was only brought under control on Saturday morning when back up fire fighters from Kabul arrived.
