6:30 REPORT: Issues Around Election Process Probed

As the timeline for holding Afghanistan’s upcoming parliamentary and district council elections looms, the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) has been trying to hire at least 16 new heads of departments for its central and provincial headquarters. Based on the law, all institutions are obliged to act upon transparency of the process and avoid taking sides in the appointment of new heads of departments.

But findings by TOLOnews indicates that the IEC has appointed two appointment committees instead of appointing one committee with IEC chief Abdulbadi Sayad leading the one committee, while the second committee is led by Rafiullah Bedar, an incumbent commissioner of the IEC.

In this episode of 6:30 REPORT, host Sayed Tariq Majidi has probed the legal prospect of the process and the concerns among observers on overseeing of the IEC’s work.
