120 Athletes Attend Kabul Ultimate Frisbee Competition

At least 120 athletes from 12 clubs have participated in the 4th round of the Ultimate Frisbee competition in Kabul that started on Saturday.

The competition will continue for the next month.

The Frisbee Federation officials said that best players will be selected for the national team during the tournament.

“We have 700 Frisbee athletes who are playing for different clubs. This game has lots of fans in Afghanistan,” said Rasheed Ghaznawi, head of the Frisbee Federation.

Athletes said they see it as a big chance to find their way to the national Frisbee team.

“Proper places should be provided for us and we should have trips abroad in order to have more achievements,” said Jamaluddin Haidari, one player.

“This game needs green spaces. We call on the Frisbee Federation to provide the required facilities for us,” said Milad Sultani, an athlete.

The National Frisbee Team came second in the Fajr Frisbee Championship in Iran in April.

Afghanistan’s membership at the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) was accepted by the organization last year in May. The WFDF has 75 member associations including Afghanistan. The federation was established in 2016.

Frisbee is a gliding toy or sporting item that is generally plastic and roughly 20 to 25 centimeters in diameter with a pronounced lip. It is used recreationally and competitively for throwing and catching, as in flying disc games.

The shape of the disc, an airfoil in cross-section, allows it to fly by generating lift as it moves through the air. Spinning it imparts a stabilizing gyroscopic force, allowing it to be both aimed and thrown for distance.
