Former England Players To Face Afghanistan In Exhibition Match

On Wednesday August 15, ahead of their ODIs and T20 matches against Ireland, Afghanistan will play a T20 exhibition match against The Sir Paul Getty XI at the world-famous Wormsley Cricket Ground in  Stokenchurch.

Afghanistan are the rising stars in the world of cricket – they’re currently ranked eighth in the ICC T20 rankings and 10th in the ODI rankings.

Rashid Khan is the world number one bowler in T20s and he took the IPL by storm this year with his performances for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, including the wickets of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni.

The Sir Paul Getty XI will be led by ex-England opening batsman, Nick Compton and includes Owais Shah (England, Middlesex, Kolkata Knight Riders & Rajasthan Royals), Kyle Coetzer (captain of Scotland) and in-form Calum MacLeod, fresh from his 140 in the historic win over England and a sparkling hundred for Derbyshire in the Vitality Blast a couple of weeks ago.

Simon Tremlin, cricket manager at Wormsley said: “We’re delighted to host this exciting game which will be the last chance to see Afghanistan play in England this year.

“Cricket has been a huge part of Wormsley for the last 26 years and with Mike Gatting’s support (president of Wormsley Cricket) we are expanding the breadth of cricket played at what’s often referred to as one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the world.”
