Herat Wins National Basketball Tournament

Herat City on Thursday hosted the final match of the basketball qualification tournament between Kandahar and Herat teams. 

In this tournament, 18 best players were selected for the national team. 

The Herat team got the first position in Afghanistan’s 43rd Annual Men’s National Qualification Basketball Tournament. The Kandahar team got the second and Kabul A team got the third position respectively.

The final match between Herat and Kandahar ended with 79-49 result in favor of Herat’s team.   

Teams from 10 provinces as well as two teams from Kabul had attended the tournament which was held at the gymnasium of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sport in Herat. 

“For the first time, Kabul team is not among them (the finalists) and it shows a balanced improvement of the sport in the country and it is a pleasure to see Kandahar and Herat teams playing in the final,” said Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, head of the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sport.

“This is the third tournament where I am taking part,” said Humayun Naeemi, member of Kandahar Basketball Team. 

“With every match and tournament, we share our positive experiences which each other to improve basketball,” said Haroon Akbari, member of Herat team.

Milad Ibrahimi from Kandahar team was declared as man of the match.

Officials said 12 teams from 11 provinces including Kabul had attended the men’s basketball tournament.
