Rashid Takes Two Spectacular Catches in Sunrisers Match

Afghanistan’s national cricket team leg-spinner Rashid Khan took two spectacular catches and a wicket for his Sunrisers Hyderabad to restrict Rajasthan Royals in their first match of the season on Monday.

Rashid has made a name for himself as a world-class leg spinner. But during Monday’s IPL match against Rajasthan Royals, the 19-year-old Afghan showed he can be equally handy in the field.

During the match in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, Rajasthan batted first under the new leadership of Ajinkya Rahane and while the focus was on the seam bowling of Sunrisers’ Bhuvneshwar Kumar and the leg-spin of Khan, it was the teenager’s athletic fielding that stood out.

Rajasthan made 125-9 batting first with Rashid taking two superb catches in the outfield.

He first accounted for Royals captain Rahane, running and sliding to his left at deep square leg off the bowling of Siddharth Kaul.

Khan then ensured top-scorer Sanju Samson didn’t inflict further damage as he again swept in at cover and dived to take the catch off the bowling of Shakib Al Hasan.

He then capped a fine outing by rattling the stumps of Jos Buttler in his final over to finish with figures of 1-23.

Rashid and Mohammad Nabi were bought by Sunrisers in January.

Rashid Khan was bought for a whopping $1,4 million USD while teammate Nabi was bought for $157,300 USD.

Rashid and Nabi were the first Afghans to play in the IPL, after being bought by Sunrisers for the 2017 season.
