Women Attend Winter Bowling Tournament In Kabul

At least 16 women from four bowling clubs attended a bowling competition in Kabul on Thursday.

Officials from the bowling federation said the event was to promote the sport among girls and women.

“One of the primary goals is to promote and develop sports among women,” said Hafeez Wali Rahimi, head of the Physical Education and the National Olympic Committee.

“We have a responsibility to support women in all areas of life including sports,” said Robina Jalali, the deputy chairperson of the committee.

In this tournament, Zuhal Bayat gained first position by taking 161 scores while Shamayil Alokozay gained second position with 117 scores.

“It was a good tournament. We saw new faces here. It was helpful for girls,” said Bayat.

“It is a sign of improvement for girls. Bowling is fascinating for girls,” said Alokozay.

The athletes meanwhile said they are faced with a lack of facilities and environment for promoting this sport.
