Zadran To Make IPL Debut In Kings XI vs Daredevils Match

Afghanistan’s national team cricketer 17-year-old Mujeeb Zadran will hopefully make his Indian Premier League debut on Sunday when his team Kings XI Punjab takes on Delhi Daredevils in Mohali in India.

The IPL got off to an official start on Saturday and will run for seven weeks.

Mujeeb was snapped up at the 2018 auction for $630,000 USD by Kings XI Punjab. The other three Afghan cricketers also bought at this year’s auction include Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Zahir Khan.

Rashid and Nabi were bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Zahir Khan will play for Rajasthan Royals.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match, Virender Sehwag, Kings XI Punjab coach, said: “I have high hopes on him. He reminds me of other mystery spinners like Ajantha Mendis and Sunil Narine. There is no doubt that he is an exciting bowler. I am sure his stint with Kings XI will be a massive learning curve for him. We need to communicate with him well so that we can guide him in achieving his goals.”

Meanwhile, Rashid and Nabi will come up against Zahir Khan on Monday when Sunrisers and Rajasthan Royals (RR) take on each other in Hyderabad.

Rashid Khan was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping $1,4 million USD while teammate Nabi was bought by the same team for $157,300 USD.

Zahir Khan, 19, was paid $94,380 USD to play for Rajasthan Royals.

Rashid and Nabi were the first Afghans to play in the IPL, after being bought by Sunrisers for the 2017 season.
