The United Nations has asked Taliban to respond positively to the Afghan government peace offer and  to lay down their arms and denounce violence. 

Afghanistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Mahmoud Saikal meanwhile has urged the international community to hold serious discussions on the nations that support insurgents.
