Imran Khan Elected Prime Minister Of Pakistan

The National Assembly elected Imran Khan as the 22nd prime minister of Pakistan. Khan is the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

He was entered politics more than two decades ago politics after his captaincy of Pakistan’s national cricket team.

Imran’s party won the July 25 general election and commands the loyalty of a majority of lawmakers in Pakistan’s Lower House of Parliament. He will take oath of office on Friday, Geo TV reported.

Imran Khan secured 176 votes while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Shehbaz Sharif got 96 votes in the polling for the Leader of the House in National Assembly of Pakistan on Friday.

During a speech after Pakistan’s general elections last month, Khan said Afghanistan has suffered tremendously due to war and violence over the past few decades and that Pakistan is ready to cooperate in bringing peace in the war-ravaged nation.

"We want to work in every possible way to ensure peace in Afghanistan. I would love an open border system like the EU with Afghanistan. Afghanistan is that neighbor of ours that has seen the most human misery and damage in the name of wars. The people of Afghanistan need peace, and Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan." Geo News quoted him as saying.
