GOFTMAN: Concerns Raised Over Film Archive Move

On the order of the president, the Afghan Films archive, including movies, documentaries and music, has been moved to the Presidential Palace.

This move has sparked concern among the cultural heritage and cinema sector.

Recently, about 140 activists sent a letter to UNESCO, the European Union and other international cultural institutions objecting to the move.

Some believe that such action will spell the end of Afghanistan’s film industry as we know it and that Afghan Films will be replaced by the state-run Afghan National Film Company.

In this episode host Partaw Naderi discusses the topic with the following guests:

Latif, a cinematographer

Mohammad Sabir Mohmand, spokesman for the ministry of information and culture

Jawan Shir Haidari, head of Afghanistan’s cinematographers union

Mohammad Ibrahim Arifi, the former head of Afghan Films
