MEHWAR: Kabul Police Chief Discusses City’s Security

Residents and analysts across the country have slammed government for what they say is its inability to provide security to the people.

This comes in the wake of a string of deadly attacks against civilians and military targets around the country - from Kabul, to Ghazni, Zabul, Faryab and Nangarhar.

Many people have said the situation is the worst it has been in 17 years, since the fall of the Taliban in 2001.

In the studio with host Zarmina Mohammadi, Mohammad Daoud Amin, Kabul's police chief says security is a priority and warnings are issued to police districts that have a high crime rate.

On the attack on the Mawhood Academy in Dasht-e-Barchi on Wednesday, Amin said he was concerned that a training center - of that size - had been allowed to operate in a residential area.

He did however accept that there are security problems in the city. He also said the attacker had dressed like any other student and had been able to enter the building easily.

He said Dasht-e-Barchi security has improved this year after they established a separate policing zone - PD18 - for the area.

Amin went on to say that every government department and all members of the public have a responsibility to cooperate with authorities to secure the country.
