Khalid Hotak, a Wushu athlete, says he succeeded to defeat his Pakistani and Laos rivals to achieve the bronze medal.
Afghan Wushu Athlete Wins Bronze Medal At Asian Games
Khalid Hotak was the first athlete from Afghanistan who got a medal at the 2018 Asian Games – from amongst 80 other athletes who are representing the country at the event in Jakarta.
Athletes from 46 sports categories have attended the Asian Games.
Hotak has so far defeated his Pakistani and Laos rivals and eyes another victory in his match against his Chinese rival on Wednesday evening.
Hotak defeated his Laos rival in the second round by knock out. And he defeated his Pakistani rival by scores.
“I am too excited for this achievement. I hope I will have more achievements in future matches,” said Hotak.
“We want to achieve more. We hope to get a gold medal (in Wushu),” said Bawar Hotak, head of the National Olympic Committee.
The CEO of the National Olympic Committee Dad Mohammad Payinda Akhtari meanwhile said the Afghan teams are well prepared to compete at the event.
Four Wushu athletes have attended the event. Three of them have been defeated by their rivals.
