A Nangarhar tribal elder was killed in a roadside blast on Sunday morning, the provincial governor's media office said in a statement.
According to the statement, the incident occurred in Arghach area of Khogyani district when Shern Agha, a tribal elder, along with two other civilians, was driving to Nangarhar city in a Toyota Corolla.
The two civilians traveling with Agha were wounded, the statement said.
The wounded civilians were taken to a nearby hospital. One of the victims is reported to be in a critical condition.
No group including the Taliban has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
