100 Wrestlers Compete In Kandahar Contest

Around 100 wrestlers on Monday took part in the annual amateur wrestling tournament in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district – which drew a crowd of a few thousand spectators.

The competition, organized by a local resident, Mohammad Sediq, aims to increase unity among the people.

Sediq said he used his own money to pay for the contest and invited 100 wrestlers.

“Around 100 wrestlers have attended here from other areas,” said Sediq.

The competition was held in a peaceful environment and wrestlers from Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul provinces all competed.

“All people are brothers and we organized this competition to bring people together,” a resident of Kandahar said.

A number of wrestlers who took part came from the western zone and applauded Kandahar people for their hospitality.

“Different tribes gathered here for peace and unity. We all are Afghans and we fight for peace and unity,” one wrestler said.

This wrestling competition is held in Kandahar every year. Kandahar is also host to a number of sporting events due to the good security in the province.
