Afghanistan Needs 198 Runs As It Eyes World Cup

The West Indies team set a mild target of 198 for Afghanistan to win the match in order for the national team to inch closer to the Cricket World Cup in their Super Six match on Thursday.

West Indies got 197/8 in 50 overs.

In this match, Afghanistan bowled 39 overs off spin. The likes of Shai Hope and Marlon Samuels could not rotate the strike in the middle overs as they needed to do. When the charge to up the run-rate finally came, wickets fell.

Afghanistan lost the toss on Thursday which saw West Indies choosing to bat first as the crucial Super Six match go underway in Harare.

This comes after the national team just managed to scrape through to this round after beating Nepal in their final group match last week.

Coming in to the tournament, Afghanistan and West Indies were the firm favorites to win the last two spots in the World Cup tournament, but after a dismal start in the group stages, Afghanistan cannot afford to lose any matches.

However, hopes are pinned on the return of wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad, who was suspended for two games owing to a breach of ICC's Code of Conduct after Afghanistan's narrow two-run defeat to Zimbabwe.

Windies, meanwhile, have enjoyed a strong run to the Super Sixes. They have remained strong and won all four matches.

Squads

Afghanistan: Rashid Khan (c), Mohammad Shahzad (wk), Javed Ahmadi, Ihsanullah Janat, Najibullah Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Samiullah Shenwari, Nasir Jamal, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Mujeeb Zadran, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Dawlat Zadran, Shapoor Zadran, Afsar Zazai
