Ghani Meets Afghan And Palestinian Football Teams

President Ashraf Ghani met with Afghan and Palestinian national football team players at the Presidential Palace on Monday morning, ARG said in a statement. 

According to the statement the Afghanistan football team’s coach Anosh Dastger addressed the president and thanked him for his commitment to improving sport and for having made it possible for Sunday’s friendly match between Afghanistan and Palestine. 

The secretary general of the Palestinian national football also thanked Afghanistan for hosting the match and congratulated the country on its Independence Day.

He said that although the match ended in a 0-0 draw, the winners were both nations.  

He also said he hopes peace comes to Afghanistan and that the football match itself brought a message of peace. 

According to the Presidential Palace, Palestine has in turn invited Afghanistan to play a friendly on its home ground.  

At the meeting first lady Rula Ghani also welcomed the teams and wished both Afghan and Palestinian teams success going forward. 

Ghani, meanwhile said: "Both teams are winners, and today Afghanistan is proud to welcome the Palestinian National Football Team."

Ghani added that over the past seventy years, “the heart of every Afghan beats for Palestinian people and all people of Afghanistan want a free Palestine.” 

Referring to a Palestinian invitation for the Afghan National Football team to play friendly matches against them, Ghani said government will provide all help needed to the Afghan Football Federation to make this trip happen.

Kabul hosted Sunday’s friendly between the Afghanistan national football team and Palestine’s national team at the Afghanistan Football Federation’s stadium.

Both teams had a number of opportunities at goal – but neither team scored. 

When the final whistle blew, the score stood at 0-0.
