Muaythai Athletes Return Home With Six Medals

Athletes from the national muaythai team returned home on Thursday with six medals from the World Youth Martial Arts Masterships in Jincheon, South Korea.

Eleven mauythai teams participated in last week’s championships.

Afghanistan won three gold medals, one silver and two bronze medals.

The two bronze medals were won by two Afghan females.

“Afghanistan did well in the competitions. The improvement of youth and women is a priority for the National Muay Thai Federation of Afghanistan,” head of the federation Amir Hassan Hassani said after his return to Kabul on Thursday.

“The national muaythai team of Afghanistan’s youth defeated strong rivals like Thailand where the sport has born. We also defeated New Zealand and South Korea and brought pride to the country,” said one of the athletes, Ahmad.

“We had proper training and we succeeded in defeating our rivals,” said Shukria Bahmani, an athlete.
