Nabi ‘Excited’ About His Good Performance In IPL

Afghanistan’s all-rounder Mohammad Nabi says he is happy about his good performance in his first appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

On Sunday’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Nabi, playing his first match of the season, sunk Royal Challengers with a sensational spell of 4/11 after coming on to bowl in the powerplay overs.

In this match, Nabi dismissed RCB’s Parthiv Patel, Shimron Hetmyer, AB de Villiers and Shivam Dube to pick up his seventh four-wicket haul in T20 cricket in the IPL.

Nabi is an underrated bowler in this format of the game given the wealth of experience he possesses and his impressive numbers in the shortest format of the game.

The Indian fans often talk about his national teammate Rashid Khan’s bowling feats in T20. Nabi isn’t way behind Rashid.  He has 221 wickets in 208 T20 games with an average of 22.1 and an economy of less than seven an over.

Interestingly, when he picks wickets, he takes quite a few of them for very few runs.

“Really happy and really enjoyed the game,” Nabi told Sunrisers in an interview published on Tuesday, adding that “I would love to bat in IPL and in the last two years I didn’t get that much opportunity in the batting side."

Nabi believes that he would be able to bat for Sunrisers anytime and “this time looking at some opportunity.”

Kevin Pietersen, a former English cricketer has called Nabi “Mr President”.

“Yeah! Kevin Pietersen called me all the time ‘Mr. President’ and it has a good story. In first Pakistan Super League in Dubai, we played together for Quetta Gladiators and it was the last game and I chased 17 runs in the over and won the match. We travelled to the hotel and one hour I had to go to airport for national duty and he called me ‘you’re the next President of Afghanistan’,” Nabi explained.

He said he also called him the same in the Big Bush tournament in Australia.

Regarding his less playing for Sunrisers, Nabi said: “It’s all our team combination and we might miss on a few looking at the opposition team and that will decide the team, who is playing and not playing.”

“We are trying to win most our away games that will help us in the tournament, to go up playoff. So, it’s important to win away games,” he added.

Sunrisers will play against Delhi Capitals in it’s next match in the IPL on Thursday which will begin at 7pm Kabul time.

Nabi and Rashid’s teammates already arrived in Delhi on Tuesday to prepare for the match.

Currently, Sunrisers is in the 3rd place of the IPL table with four runs after Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab.
