Taekwondo Selection Tournament Kicks Off In Kabul

The seventh annual taekwondo tournament kicked off on Monday in Kabul with 330 athletes from 30 provinces expected to take part. 

The tournament will be carried out over six days and of the 330 athletes, the top 40 will be selected for the national team. 

“We hope to see the athletes make their way to the national team (to take part) in international matches. Also we expect them to bring home medals for the country,” said Najibullah Sikandari, head of the Taekwondo association.

“We hope that these athletes make a better future for Afghans and make the country proud in international matches,” said Khairi, Humayun, head of the Directorate of Physical Education and Sport of Afghanistan.
