Justice Minister Basir Anwar said that the holding of a constitutional Loya Jirga is directly linked with the holding of parliament and district council elections.

Anwar said that the national unity government is committed to holding such a Loya Jirga.

At the time of establishing the national unity government, the leaders agreed to convene a Loya Jirga within two years to amend the constitution to include an office of prime minister. This has not however been done.
