Arif Alvi to Take Oath As 13th President of Pakistan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Arif Alvi, who was declared the 13th president of the country last week, will take oath of office on Sunday.

The country’s Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar will administer the oath.

Geo News reported the ceremony will be attended by Mamnoon Hussain, the outgoing president, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), members of the federal cabinet, judges and foreign ambassadors.

Alvi who was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of the PTI from Karachi’s NA-247 constituency during the July 25 polls.

Born in 1949, and a dentist by profession Alvi was among the founding members of the PTI and started his political career during his student days as an active member of student unions protesting against the then-President Gen. Ayub Khan.

However after a number of unsuccessful attempts in the political arena over the years he was finally elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan for the first time in general elections in  2013 on a PTI ticket from NA-250 constituency of Karachi.

He was re-elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of PTI from Constituency NA-247 (Karachi South-II) in2018.

On September 4, members of the national and provincial assemblies voted Alvi as the President of Pakistan.
