Heavy Storms Kill 127 In India

At least 127 people have lost their lives in heavy storms and thunderstorm across India in the past 24 hours, leaving a trail of destruction, with houses flattened, trees uprooted and electricity poles in disarray, Indian media reported on Friday.

The Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have witnessed heavy devastation, the Times of India reported, adding that 112 people were killed in the two states. 

“Concrete houses came down like pack of cards one after the other,” said Narendra Sharma, the SHO of Kheragarh police station in Agra district, as quoted by Times of India. 

According to the report, at least 12,700 electricity polls were uprooted, and 1,523 transformers damaged in Rajasthan. 

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted another episode of dust storm and thundershowers in the next 48 hours, the Indian Express reported.  

At least 205 were injured in the deadly dust storm that pummeled several parts of western and northern India, the report said.
