Iraq, Iran, Russia And Syria Discuss Anti-Daesh Campaign

Security officials from Iraq, Iran, Russia and Syria held a joint intelligence meeting in Baghdad on Thursday to discuss regional security issues, including the fight against Daesh militants.

Russia, Iran, Iraq and the Syrian government created a joint intelligence-sharing center back in 2015 to coordinate operations against Daesh militants, The Associated Press reported.

“This center has played a huge and important role in previous years in providing all the necessary military and intelligence reports which enabled us to locate a large number of enemy targets and inflict heavy losses and casualties among the terrorists,” said a senior Syrian officer, as quoted by AP.

According to Iran's official IRNA news agency, the country's defense minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami met with Iraq's interior minister and other officials and praised their victory over the Daesh group.

The meeting came as Iraq launched airstrikes in neighboring Syria against Daesh militants.

Syrian and Iraqi forces have driven Daesh from nearly all the territory it once held, but the extremists have maintained a presence in the remote desert areas along the border.
