Pakistan-India Tension Can Affect Entire Region: Envoy

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Zahid Nasrullah Khan said on Tuesday that further escalation of tension between India and Pakistan could have serious implications on the stability of the entire region, including Afghanistan.

“Since the development is so momentous that it can affect the stability of the entire region,” said Pakistani envoy in response to a question about the ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan will retaliate any military hostility by the Indians, he said as leaders from the two nuclear-armed neighbors lash out on each other’s following last week’s suicide bombing that hit a convoy of India forces in Kashmir.

Pakistani envoy also dismissed the prospect for a meeting between the Taliban and Pakistani leader Imran Khan, saying Pakistan has always supported the Afghan peace process.

“The government of Pakistan has never made any comments that Taliban will be visiting Pakistan,” he said, referring to recent reports that a senior Taliban delegation will meet Pakistani leader Imran Khan.

He called on other countries not to expect more from Pakistan which is beyond its capacity.

“Pakistan is making a very major effort, playing its key role which is being recognized internationally. But it is a shared responsibility. Everyone has a responsibility towards it and Pakistan has a limited role in that, but what limited role we have, we are playing that. We also have a limited influence. So expect Pakistan deliver on each and every account I think is not reasonable. Yes, we belive that it has to be intra-Afghan talks that is where all issues will be decided.” he said.

The tensions between the two countries erupted after the Kashmir attack. Denying any role in Pulwama attack, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said Tuesday that he would take action against the perpetrators of the terror attack if India shares actionable proof about any wrongdoing, but warned against any retaliatory action on his country.

Meanwhile, Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday that “we demand Pakistan to stop misleading the international community and take credible and visible action against the perpetrators of Pulwama terrorist attack and other terrorists and terror groups operating from areas under their control”.
