Local officials from northern Faryab province have confirmed that the center of Kohistan district in the province fell to the Taliban early Sunday.

Abdul Karim Youresh, a spokesman for provincial police said security forces are currently in Khair Abad village of the district “which is about 1.5 kilometers far from the center of the district.”

“Soon we will launch a military operation to re-capture the center of the district. Currently security forces are fighting the insurgents in eight districts of the province,” Youresh said.

However, he did not provide details about casualties.

The Taliban also confirmed that they captured the district.

The security forces are fighting with insurgents in Ghormatch, Qaisar, Almar, Belcheragh, Khwaja Sabzposh, Dawlat Abad Sherin Tagab and Kohistan districts of the province.
