Insurgent have shot dead the father of a soldier who taken captive by the Taliban in Kohistanat district of in northern Sar-e-Pul province, local police officials confirmed on Thursday.
The incident took place on Wednesday in Kohistanat district of the province while the father of the soldier was on his way home to the provincial capital, said provincial police chief Khalilullah Dastyar.
“The soldier was captured by the Taliban nearly two years ago. The insurgents have now killed the soldier’s father and his aunt's husband while they were returning from the district,” Dastyar said.
However, he did not provide further details.
No group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the incident yet.
