Unknown gunmen killed an employee of the Pakistani consulate in Nangarhar on Monday evening, local officials confirmed.
Nangarhar governor's spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said the incident happened at about 6pm on Monday when the victim was at a local market. Gunmen riding two motorcycles shot him.
According to Khogyani, the victim was Nara Iqbal, also known as Rana, and was from Islamabad. Khogyani confirmed he had been working for the Pakistan consulate in Nangarhar province.
No group, including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
