6 Road Projects in Capital to Begin: Kabul Municipality

The Kabul Municipality says 6 road construction projects have been approved by the National Procurement Commission led by the Deputy PM, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. The cost of the projects is around one billion Afs, officials say.

The projects are the construction of 3,176 meters on Gulbagh-Daralaman palace road, 1,890 meters from Hangara square to Qasaba road, 3,226 meters on the road from Mirwais Miadan to Dehmazang road, 1,325 meters from Malalai square to Halqawi venue, 2,520 meters on the Kharkhana’s road second part, and 2,103 meters on the road from Qala-e-Shanan, from Qala-e-Zaman Khan 60-meters road to Kabul-Jalalabad highway including a bridge.

The Kabul Municipality says that these projects will start soon.

“Our 6 projects worth one billion Afs have been confirmed and 14 km of roads will be constructed in Kabul. The construction of the roads, besides addressing the traffic issue, will also help the economic and development plan of Kabul,” said Nematullah Barakzai, an official of the municipality.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Economy, Abdul Rahman Habib, considers the confirmed projects fruitful for the employment in the country.

“With the implementation of these projects, thousands of people will be provided with employment chances and will also help the betterment of the services in several sectors,” he added.

A number of Kabul residents appreciated such projects, but want the damaged roads to be reconstructed.

“We want the Municipality and other responsible people to plan those roads and streets which make people face troubles,” said Mohammad Zabih, a resident of Kabul.

“The construction of the roads should be done carefully and should use high quality materials,” said Nizamuddin, another resident of Kabul.

This comes as the Kabul municipality for the last two years has been focused on the construction of the roads.
