Afghanistan Discussed By Foreign Ministers of India, Iran

The Minister of External Affairs of India, S Jaishankar, said at a press conference that he talked over the latest changes in Afghanistan with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran's foreign minister.

Jaishankar arrived in Iran on Monday for a two-day visit.

Meanwhile, according to Iranian media, the Indian foreign minister who is on a trip to Iran, also discussed important regional and international issues with Iranian officials.

“Dr. Abdollahian and I will be reviewing development in Afghanistan. We spoke about it briefly and continued our longstanding dialogue about its stability and security,” Jaishankar said.

The Indian foreign minister also highlighted the importance of the geographic location of Iran, as it joins India with Afghanistan and Central Asia.

This comes as the Islamic Emirate’s spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid, stressed that the world should have a united view towards Afghanistan and that cooperation must increase in diplomatic and economic fields.

“We have good diplomatic and economic cooperation with all regional countries and we want to improve it,” he said.

Political analyst Mohammad Matin Mohammad Khail said that such meetings will not have any result for Afghanistan.

“Meetings happened a lot recently, but Afghanistan cannot rely on the Western or Eastern [powers] due to its neutral policy which is an active and positive policy. Because of this issue, even though the meetings are good, they will not bring any result for Afghanistan,” he said.

“The provision of sincere relations will not only benefit the people of the two countries but will also increase peace and stability as well as security,” said Najib Rahman Shamal, a political analyst.

This comes as the Pakistan Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jelani on Monday met with Iran's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, where Jelani

"underscored Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful & stable Afghanistan and emphasized the need for enhanced coordination for regional stability,” Pakistan’s MoFA said in a statement.
