12-Year-Old Child Freed from Kidnappers in Kabul

Abdul Fahim, a 12-year-old child, was freed from kidnappers after 14 days in captivity in Kabul.

Abdul Fahim's family said that the kidnappers had demanded $800,000 for his release.

"There were two of them there. One was always with me, working, and the other brought food. The room I was in was dark,” said Abdul Fahim, the freed child.

"People who disrupt security and cause harm to people should be stopped and brought to justice for their actions," said Abdul Raqib, Fahim’s father.

Abdul Matin Qani, the spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said that during the operation to free Abdul Fahim, two kidnappers were killed.

According to Qani, 57 kidnapping cases have been addressed in the past year.

"The kidnapped child was released. The kidnappers were killed during the operation," the Ministry of Interior's spokesperson told TOLOnews.

"After we captured the kidnappers with the help of the Ministry of Interior, we took the boy from the kidnappers and returned him to his family. Two kidnappers were killed," said Nasir Ahmad Ahmadi, the head of Kabul's Police District 11.

Earlier, the Ministry of Interior said that Kabul, with 995 criminal cases on record, tops the list of provinces with the highest number of crimes.
