Kandahar Governor, Pakistani Diplomat Discuss Durand Line

Obaid Rahman Nizamani, the head of the Pakistan diplomatic mission in Kabul, on his visit to Kandahar engaged in discussions on the Durand Line with Mullah Shirin Akhund, the governor of Kandahar province, who also serves as the head of the committee tasked with resolving Durand Line issues.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, said that Pakistan's concerns and the border area conflict that occurred a few days ago in Khost province were the main topics of this meeting.

Mujahid said: "It has been said regarding the relations along the mentioned line that both sides should make an effort. If you are aware, an incident happened in Khost three days ago which is under investigation, and the governor of Kandahar is responsible for that joint committee which occasionally holds meetings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, hence the issues were shared."

Political analysts said that improving relations between the current Afghan government and Pakistan is crucial, and Islamabad must be sincere in its interactions with Kabul.

"The meeting of the Pakistani ambassador with the governor of Kandahar is significant because changes have occurred in Pakistan, a new government has emerged, hence they want to convey the message about future relations and how relations and Pakistan's policies will be, through him to Mullah Hibatullah,” said Aziz Marij, a political analyst.

"It would be good if we could resolve issues through diplomatic means rather than through the media. This way, the situation can proceed normally and improve, allowing both countries to make appropriate use of the good situation,” said Moeen Gul Samkanai, another political analyst.

Previously, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister, had stated in a meeting with Obaid Rahman Nizamani that his return to Kabul would positively impact the diplomatic relations between Kabul and Islamabad.
