33 Deaths Result From Recent Flooding in Afghanistan

As a result of snow and rain and subsequent flooding over the past three days in the country, 33 people have lost their lives and 27 others have been injured.

The spokesperson for the State Ministry for Disaster Management Affairs reported that in addition to the loss of life, citizens have also suffered significant financial damages.

According to the spokesperson of the ministry, due to the effects of these floods, 200 livestock have perished, more than 600 homes have been completely or partially destroyed, and 2,000 hectares of agricultural land have also been ruined.

“According to preliminary statistics, unfortunately, thirty-three people have died and twenty-seven others have been injured due to the recent floods. Similarly, 606 homes have been either partially or completely destroyed,” said Janan Saiq, spokesperson for the State Ministry of Disaster Management.

Janan Saiq also said that in coordination with the Ministries of Public Health, Defense, Public Works, as well as some other agencies, they have reached vulnerable areas and prevented further casualties.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of State for Natural Disaster Affairs further stated that the majority of the fatalities and financial losses occurred in the provinces of Farah, Herat, Zabul, and Kandahar.

Janan Saiq said: “The majority of the casualties were in the provinces of Farah, Herat, Zabul, and Kandahar, with most victims coming from Kandahar province.”

 The State Ministry for Disaster Management Affairs reported that since the beginning of the current solar month, they have provided and distributed national and international aid to more than 22,000 needy families.

The ministry also warned of the potential for increased flood casualties and the possibility of further snow and rain precipitation leading to floods in the provinces in the coming days.
