Chaman Protesters Threaten to Escalate Action

Protesters in Chaman warn that if Pakistan does not reconsider its decision regarding the mandatory passport and visa requirements at the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing, they will expand the scope of their protests.

Members of this protest movement in a meeting with businessmen from the Balochistan province accuse the Pakistani government of weakening the economy of Chaman residents.

In a meeting with business leaders from Balochistan, members of this protest movement accused the Pakistani government of undermining the economy of the residents of Chaman.

These protests started 7 months ago against the decision of the Pakistani government to make passports and visas mandatory at the Spin Boldak - Chaman crossing.

“This government Just wants to shed blood in Chaman,  just wants to break Chaman, some people collected 15 crores, some collected 20 crores and the business of this country has started,” said Ghousullah, the head of the protest movement.

“The people themselves have said that our problem is solved, we are not deceiving anyone anymore,” said Sadiq Khan Achakzai, the spokesperson for the protest movement in Chaman.

Other members of the movement emphasize that the continuation of this situation will have negative consequences.

Sharafat Khan, a member of the movement stated: “ Our homeland has been torn apart by these people, they have divided our homeland."

“In 1892, when the British ruled, they didn't ask us for passports, they didn't put up barbed wire, but when our Islamic country was established, they started this crisis on us,” said Baran, another member of the Chaman protest movement.

Previously, the Pakistani government had promised to solve this challenge during a meeting with members of this protest movement, but seven months later, the issue remains unresolved and residents on both sides of the border face many challenges.
