Abdullah Concerned Over Harassment of Women

CEO Abdullah Abdullah says he is worried over the continued harassment of women in the workplace.

Speaking on Sunday at a seminar celebrating 8 of March, the International Woman Day, he added that war and insecurity were also big obstacles in the way of women in their development and access to literacy.

“Harassment and discrimination in workplace against women continues to exist and it confronts them with many problems,” he said.

Abdullah said a public effort is needed to overcome the challenges facing women.

“Violence against women has been repeated from time to time, but it can be decreased if all the people play their roles in mitigating abuse against women,” Abdullah added.

Minister of Women Affairs, Delbar Nazari said women still play a minor role in government and significant changes have not been made in their lives.

“The growing insecurity causes us to worry about losing our achievements of the past one and half decades on issues related to women. It is a serious concern,” she said.

Right now the lack of access to education, family violence and old customs are said to be the most serious challenges facing women in the country.

Although National Unity Government leaders have committed to improving the situation, but women rights defenders’ institutions said women still play a lesser less role in government departments.
