Heavy clashes have been ongoing between the Taliban and security forces in Azra district of central Logar province since Monday night, provincial council members confirmed on Tuesday.
The clashes started on Monday night after the Taliban attacked security check posts, Abdul Wali Wakil, deputy head of the provincial council said, adding that “if the government does not send reinforcements, the district will fall to the Taliban.”
“At least ten security force members were killed in the clashes,” Wakil said.
In the meantime, residents of Azra claimed that foreign troops carried out an airstrike against security check posts in the district, killing seven security force members and wounding two others.
But local officials reject these claims but have not provided details about the clashes.
The Taliban have not yet commented.
